So many ‘I can’t believe this is China’ moments! I went on this trip on a random decision and ended up loving China so much, because I got to see so much. The incredible views, the spots, places and experiences that Jade Days selected were so good and immersive; they even had every dinner planned out. That’s what surprised me most, because I’m a huge foodie, and in every new city we went to Jade Days made sure we were at at least one good, authentic local cuisine restaurant, and gotta say: love ’em all! Thanks Jade Days, and thanks Frank for the dedication. Can genuinely feel all the thought you guys put into it!

I love seeing China the way I know I would see China if I was by myself. I think that’s the big thing: a lot of places I wouldn’t even know existed if it wasn’t for Jade Days. I also like that everything’s so organised and I didn’t have to think of anything but to follow the arrangements. And I love the fully inclusive pricing. I don’t mind paying more, but I do mind being charged on the spot with hidden fees and extra charges. Good thing Jade Days made sure everything’s inclusive.

Jade Days really knows their stuff. I really enjoy working with experts like this, because they really listen and understand what you need and say. It’s nice to be mind-free and just sit down and relax while all the details of my trip are taken care of. In the 3 cities I went to there were 3 different guides. I thought that was going to be a risky factor, since the guides may do things differently and may have different personalities, but Jade Days actually trained them really well and we loved all three of them! Will be back for another trip next year, to Yunnan.

My third trip to China. I used to take the big bus tours and didn’t think this time would be so different, for almost the same price! I would have thought hotels, transport and food don’t count as part of the journey and wouldn’t make too big a difference. Didn’t know how wrong I was until I experienced what Frank designed for me. Everything’s so exquisite and so thoughtfully planned; they even had lift passes for my mum (she has bad knees). I guess the operator you choose does matter. Wish I knew Jade Days earlier.

We had a great experience with Jade Days! Every attraction and activity was thoughtfully chosen to suit everyone’s interests. Their Australia team even spoke with the local studios in advance to make sure our preferences were taken care of. Everything was well organised and ran smoothly. Highly recommend!

We had such a great time on our one-week trip to Chengdu with Jade Days! The itinerary was really well planned. Our Jade Days guide, Lan, was fantastic: friendly, knowledgeable and always happy to help. She made the whole trip feel relaxed and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend Lan!

We were very appreciative of Frank’s help and knowledge to make decisions along the way. This being our first trip to China, we had lots of questions, and he was very patient with us. Frank did an excellent job of helping us plan our excursions and enjoy the whole trip without extra worries.

Experiences you and your kids can both enjoy

Eleven cities in four kinds of China: winter, history, nature and modern. Open any one to see what a day there looks like.

Winter

Ice, snow, hot springs.

Harbin · Changbaishan

Harbin

Built from river ice.

Scroll sideways
A day in Harbin

The morning is the frozen Songhua: ice bikes and sleds on the river. Then St Sophia and the old Russian streets on foot, and belugas indoors at Polar Park. Ice and Snow World comes last, from daylight into dark, when the ice buildings light up.

A lantern sign at Yunding Market in Changbaishan

Changbaishan

Children on the beginner runs after breakfast, ski-in from the hotel, and feeding time at the deer park in the afternoon. The hot springs are outdoors, in the snow. One early start for Mojie: frost on the trees along the river that doesn't freeze.

History

Three cities, three thousand years.

Xi'an · Beijing · Chengdu
Terracotta Army figures inside the excavation hall in Xi'an

Xi'an

The first emperor's capital.

Scroll sideways
A day in Xi'an

The Terracotta Warriors in the morning, eight thousand of them. After lunch the city wall by bike, a 14 km loop with stops wherever you like. Dinner is eaten walking in the Muslim Quarter, then the Tang night street, in hanfu if the children want to.

The Great Wall in autumn, north of Beijing

Beijing

Six hundred years of emperors.

Scroll sideways
A day in Beijing

The Forbidden City along its central axis, then a hutong courtyard where the family makes dumplings for lunch. The Great Wall at Mutianyu takes the next day: cable car up, toboggan down. Universal Beijing is a full day of its own, if you want it.

A giant panda sitting on a log in Chengdu

Chengdu

Older than any dynasty.

Pandas first thing, when they're awake and eating. Sanxingdui after: bronze masks three thousand years old. The afternoon is a teahouse, with ear cleaning and mahjong for anyone who wants to try, and Sichuan opera over dinner, face-changing included.

Nature

Stone, water, forest.

Zhangjiajie · Guilin and Yangshuo · Yunnan

A morning on the Yulong River on a bamboo raft, then Yangshuo by bike through the rice fields, at a child's pace. Reed Flute Cave for a hot afternoon, inside a karst hill. From May to October we add a day for the Longji terraces.

Tiled rooftops across Lijiang old town

Yunnan

Flowers, coffee, tea, mushrooms.

Dounan flower market early, Asia's largest. Then a workshop: Bai tie-dye, or petals hammered into fabric, and your own cloth to take home. In Lijiang the children write their names in Dongba pictographs. The coffee and the tea are grown here; parents get to taste both.

Modern

Speed, height, scale.

Shanghai · Guangzhou and Zhuhai · Sanya

A note from Frank

I started Jade Days because the China I know and the China most visitors see on a coach tour are two different places. I wanted families to have the first one: the quieter morning at the panda base, the kitchen where you make the dumplings, a guide with time for your children's questions.

Every Jade Days family journey is planned by hand, and I'm involved in each one. That takes care, and care is mostly time: we spend more of it on each journey than you would expect, before you leave and while you're away.

Doing it this way is slower than choosing from a brochure. We think it's the only way a family trip to China comes out right.

It also takes listening. The best journeys we've planned began with parents telling us exactly what their children are like. Tell us, and we'll plan around it.

What we stand for

Budget tours usually keep the price down by filling a coach, adding shopping stops and moving quickly. We spend that money the other way.

Private over group
Your own guide and car, every day, with nobody else added.
Pace over coverage
Fewer stops, and real time at each one.
Facts over promises
We describe places as they are, and we quote what things cost.
Kids Travel Free

Offer conditions

These conditions apply to the Kids Travel Free offer. Our full booking terms apply to every Jade Days journey, including this one.

  1. One child aged 14 or under on the departure date travels free with each family. A family is up to two adults and their children sharing one room.
  2. Each family needs at least two paying travellers.
  3. Your per-person rate is set by the number of paying travellers in your booking; the free child doesn't count towards it. Two families travelling together are quoted as one group.
  4. The free child shares their parents' room using the existing beds. An extra bed, a family or connecting room, or a second room is charged at cost, including where the hotel requires it.
  5. A larger vehicle or an additional guide, where the group size needs one, is charged at cost.
  6. The free place covers everything in the published itinerary. Optional activities and upgrades are charged per person, including for the child.
  7. Can be combined with early-bird pricing, which applies to bookings confirmed with deposit by 30 November 2026.
  8. Applies to new bookings confirmed with deposit by 14 March 2027.
  9. Prices on this site are a guide. Your quote reflects your dates and party, and peak periods may be priced differently.
  10. If the number of travellers changes after booking, the quote is recalculated. The free place has no cash value and can't be transferred or exchanged.
  11. International flights, visas and travel insurance are not included, as with all our journeys.
